  • Comprehensive schools in Turku

    The Turku Urban Research Programme implements the research project "Primary schools as centres of learning and well-being in Turku" (2022-2023) in cooperation between the Centre for Lifelong Learning and Education (CELE) of the University of Turku, the Research Group on Education, Assessment and Learning (REAL) of the University of Tampere, and the Research Group on Child and Youth Health Promotion (NEDIS).

  • Corona research project

    The sudden shift to distance learning can be seen as a concrete, large-scale experiment in distance learning throughout our education system, which is now at the latest directing teachers and pupils to computers and various e-learning platforms.

  • Horizon Europe MapIE project

    MapIE - Mapping of Longitudinal data of Inequalities in Education is a 4-year Horizon Europe project coordinated by the Tampere University’s Research Centre for Education, Assessment and Learning (REAL). The research consortium consists of internationally acknowledged experts in large-scale educational assessment research from Centre for Educational Assessment at the University of Helsinki, Finnish Educational Evaluation Centre, Centre for Educational Measurement at the University of Oslo, University of Gothenburg, Goethe University of Frankfurt and University of Szeged.

  • Learning and schooling support

    The principles of educational equality are central to Finnish education policy in early childhood education, pre-primary and primary education, as well as in the secondary education guarantee. Special education approaches have been used to bring the whole age group into the same school system and to provide each pupil with the most appropriate form of education to support learning and progress in the education system.

    PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) is a joint research programme of OECD member countries that surveys the mathematics, science and literacy skills of young people aged 15 every three years in an international comparative framework. It also measures key competences for the future, learning attitudes and skills.

  • Tuettu-study


    Tuettu-study is a research project carried out by a University of Helsinki and Tampere University consortium that investigates issues related to inclusion from the perspective of the placement of students with special educational needs. The main objective of the study is to investigate the outcomes of the different placement options and the effect of class composition on students with special educational needs as well as on their peers.

    DigiVOO-project

    DigiVOO studies the impact of digitalisation on Learning Situations, Learning and Learning Outcomes in basic education. The results of the research project can be used to plan the pedagogical use of learning environments.

    This project has the potential for important scientific breakthroughs, as log data analysis is still an emerging area in educational research.

  • Teaching and assessing transversal competences in formal and informal learning environments

    Teaching and assessing transversal competences in formal and informal learning environments” was a teacher education development project funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture and one of the government’s priority projects that began in 2018.
