  • Horizon Europe MapIE project

    MapIE - Mapping of Longitudinal data of Inequalities in Education is a 4-year Horizon Europe project coordinated by the Tampere University’s Research Centre for Education, Assessment and Learning (REAL). The research consortium consists of internationally acknowledged experts in large-scale educational assessment research from Centre for Educational Assessment at the University of Helsinki, Finnish Educational Evaluation Centre, Centre for Educational Measurement at the University of Oslo, University of Gothenburg, Goethe University of Frankfurt and University of Szeged.

  • HyMy project

    The aim of the research project on staff well-being and compassion in early childhood education and care (ECEC) is to investigate how well-being of staff and workplace climate at the ECE center are reflected in the quality of staff-children interaction. The research will examine the construction of a culture of compassion within the community as a whole and aim to model concrete actions and practices that support a thriving community of both children and adults. The research project is funded by Emil Aaltonen foundation (2025-2027).

  • National Learning to Learn Assessment 2024

    The National Learning to Learn Assessment 2024 is a research project that examines the level of competence, motivation, and attitudes of ninth graders in Finland in 2024 and the changes in these measures compared to the years 2001, 2012, and 2017. The implementation of educational equality is examined at the same time.

  • Learning and schooling support

    The principles of educational equality are central to Finnish education policy in early childhood education, pre-primary and primary education, as well as in the secondary education guarantee. Special education approaches have been used to bring the whole age group into the same school system and to provide each pupil with the most appropriate form of education to support learning and progress in the education system.

  • Comprehensive schools in Turku

    The Turku Urban Research Programme implements the research project "Primary schools as centres of learning and well-being in Turku" (2022-2023) in cooperation between the Centre for Lifelong Learning and Education (CELE) of the University of Turku, the Research Centre for Education, Assessment and Learning (REAL) of the University of Tampere, and the Research Group on Child and Youth Health Promotion (NEDIS).

  • PISA

    PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) is a joint research programme of OECD member countries that surveys the mathematics, science and literacy skills of young people aged 15 every three years in an international comparative framework. It also measures key competences for the future, learning attitudes and skills.

  • TAR project

    The aim of the TAR project is to study the effectiveness of the state’s needs-based funding to promote educational equality and equity in early childhood education, pre-primary and primary education. The project is a research project of a consortium of the Tampere University, the University of Eastern Finland, the University of Turku, the Labour Institute for Economic Research LABORE and the VATT Institute for Economic Research.

    Tuettu 2 is a research project conducted by a consortium of the University of Helsinki and Tampere University. It investigates inclusion from the perspective of student placement.

    Computer-based assessment of future skills

    The aim of this project was to create new dynamic digital assessment tools for the evaluation of transversal competences in educational institutions.

    Teaching and assessing transversal competences in formal and informal learning environments

    “Teaching and assessing transversal competences in formal and informal learning environments” was a teacher education development project funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture. It was one of the government’s priority projects that began in 2018.
